A new Twitter friend sent me a private message through my contact form. As a part of her overall message she asks:

I was reading your post this morning that stated you have been celibate for 21 years. I wanted to ask a question, if you don’t mind. Does that mean you still struggle with same sex attraction and you don’t plan to marry? Could you elaborate on that?

I don’t mind at all, and yes I can elaborate on that :) .

Your question encompasses two different issues in my mind; you are asking if I still struggle with same sex attractions, and if I plan on marrying.

For me, those two issues are not interlinked as they appear to be in your question. My getting married was never dependent on how much same-sex attraction I had/have. In other words I am not using my level of same-sex attractions in the past or present as a reason to not marry. There is so much to think and pray through before getting married that once you get on the other side of all that, it puts any not-your-spouse attractions in proper perspective.

Ask-It Basket: Gay Inclusive Christians Launch New Project: NALT (we are “Not All Like That”), Thoughts?

Yesterday, my Facebook friend Paul messaged me asking:

hey have you seen the NALT site yet? what are your thoughts?

To introduce this post I will let the man who inspired the project, Dan Savage, explain the background of “NALT” and the premise of the project:

I was also intrigued that Truth Wins Out, and a man named Jim Shore (I don’t know much, if anything really, about Mr. Shore) are the founders of the NALT project. Wayne, the founder of TWO, gave me my favorite activist-assigned title, “Exodus Spokes-Virgin.” He’s a clever one …

Ask-It Basket: “Do You Think Homosexual Sexual Behavior A Sin?”

After my apology to the gay community, many people have asked, “Do you think homosexual sexual behavior is sin?”

In times past when people have asked that question I thought the best way to honor them (and the question) was to simply respond succinctly and clearly. I still believe that to be true but what I found is that if I don’t take the time to answer with the fulness of my heart and intent, it becomes a litmus test type of question. This question often leads to instant conclusions, and lines in the sand are drawn over a simple yes or no.
