Always Humanize, Never Stigmatize

Of Ellen and One Million Moms

onemillionmoms

A friend of mine asked me on Facebook what I thought of the battle between One Million Moms and JC Penney's over hiring Ellen as a spokesperson for JC Penney's. When the friend asked I honestly had not read a single interview or article on the subject. Apparently it had been a controversy for about a week by the time I responded to her. Here is the video clip I watched as a result: And here is my initial response to my Facebook friend. I watched the video on Crystal's wall. I might blog about it but my first response is I am NOT a huge fan of boycotts because they do seem so very much like bullying. It is an old school culture … [Read more...]

Web Traffic and Blog Content: A Psychological Juxtaposition?

goth single lades

A Facebook friend writes: Have you ever noticed that the blog posts that you think are most important get the least traffic, and the less informative ones get the most? I wonder if that's a psychological juxtaposition or just God telling me I'm not *that* important. Well, you and God can work that out. We both know you are important to Him. That said, I have come to the conclusion that blog traffic isn't *that* important. I mean blog stats are important and informative. Blog stats aren't trivial and a serious blogger should note what their stats reveal with regard to what is read and shared most often. I have found however that blog … [Read more...]

Prop 8 Struck Down Again

From L.A. Now (LA Times): A federal appeals court Tuesday struck down California's ban on same-sex marriage, clearing the way for the U.S. Supreme Court to rule on gay marriage as early as next year. The 2-1 decision by a panel of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals found that Proposition 8, the 2008 ballot measure that limited marriage to one man and one woman, violated the U.S. Constitution. The architects of Prop. 8 have vowed to appeal. The ruling was narrow and likely to be limited to California. “Proposition 8 served no purpose, and had no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in … [Read more...]

Can a Current Brutal Communist Dictator Go To Heaven? Fidel Castro Hopes So

fidel

From GetReligion's The Last Temptation of Castro (linkage and emphasis theirs except I italicized the quote from Fidel's daughter.): Fidel Castro will be received back into the communion of the Roman Catholic Church during Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to the island in March, the Italian press is reporting. If true, this is a remarkable story — and one that has yet to catch the attention of editors this side of the Atlantic. On 1 Feb 2012, La Republicca — [Italy’s second largest circulation daily newspaper, La Republicca follows a center-left political line and is strongly anti-clerical; not anti-Catholic per se but a critic of … [Read more...]

Susan G. Komen is “Crushed” – My Wallet Is Closed

Won't Get Another Dime ...

Everyone is talking about how Planned Parenthood "crushed" The Komen Foundation via an online campaign. They succeeded in getting Komen to cave and start sending money their way again. Many are calling it a Social Media win. Jilly Stanek says this is a clear example of why it is important to have a social media strategy. I completely agree with that. That said, honestly, this situations looks more like online extortion by manipulating masses of people through social networking and the liberally biased media. It's an interesting new twist in the culture war where "friends" devour friends to make a name, or raise money, for themselves. … [Read more...]

Why I Voted for Mitt Romney

DSCN2312

Of the four remaining Republican candidates I have shaken the hands of three (Romney, Gingrich and Santorum), had brief conversations with two (Romney and Gingrich... Gingrich was very brief) and actually shared my testimony with one (Santorum.) Santorum is by far the most approachable of the three. Maybe it's because he actually had the time to have a conversation. I really liked the guy. The only reason I didn't vote for him is because I don't believe he could lead the entire country and would be eaten alive. If he were to be elected it might create four more years of DC political gridlock. Remember, I love the guy and am not saying that … [Read more...]

The Christian Post = Really Shoddy Reporting … Again

original CP article

Last year before leaving Exodus The Christian Post attributed quotes by Jeff Buchanan (the new Exec. Vice President of Exodus at the time ... still is) to me. I didn't say anything publicly because Jeff contacted them and they corrected it. However, they have done another horrible job at quoting me without actually talking to me. I will parse out the The Christian Post quotes of me in their article and respond in kind. From Cynthia Nixon Gay 'Choice' Comments Anger Homosexual Activists written January 24th, 2012 by Brittney R. Villalva, : Randy Thomas is the executive vice president of Exodus International, one of the world's … [Read more...]

Glitter + Bomb = Weird Activist Trend

glitter big

Glitter bomb. I don't get it. I mean if you are going to commit an assault against someone else ... is glitter really the way to go? Not that I am into or condoning any kind of assault. Just say no to assault in all its forms. But back to the issue, glitter bombing is like passive aggressive assault and well... just a really weird protest option. Sure, Bachmann and Santorum both had to go home and shake glitter out of their hair and lint brush it off their clothes. But ... is that silly annoyance really accomplishing something? It seems glitter bombers are overshadowed by the sparkly defiance erupting in a cloud of O-so-angry shiny … [Read more...]

The March For Life 2012

Today is a big day among those of us who are pro-life. The March for Life occurred today. Millions of people spoke up for the unborn and how often did you see it mentioned in the news? Michelle Malkin has a great rundown of various mentions and statements.  Also, The Foundry (Heritage Foundation) has a heart breaking and provocative post Gendercide: The War Feminists Seeminly Refuse to Fight. Also, The Washington Post reports that large numbers of youth and young adults are joining the pro-life movement. Ever since becoming a Christian I have been solidly pro-life and will do what I can to support local pregnancy centers and the … [Read more...]

The Counterfeit Religion of Politics Part 2

cropped-beginning.jpg

I've gotten interesting feedback concerning The Counterfeit Religion of Politics and am encouraged to continue to post along those lines. Background: I was involved in politics, more than just a blogger with an opinion, between 2003 and 2007. Some would say, and did, that I was a "political operative."  That is highly exaggerated in an attempt to undermine my main focus of ministry. I only exercised the same civil liberties over 300 million Americans can exercise at will. That said, I do believe God opened up some amazing doors (testifying in Massachusetts, sharing my testimony in the Federal Senate (the actual Senate) building to a … [Read more...]
