Always Humanize, Never Stigmatize

Why I Voted for Mitt Romney

DSCN2312

Of the four remaining Republican candidates I have shaken the hands of three (Romney, Gingrich and Santorum), had brief conversations with two (Romney and Gingrich... Gingrich was very brief) and actually shared my testimony with one (Santorum.) Santorum is by far the most approachable of the three. Maybe it's because he actually had the time to have a conversation. I really liked the guy. The only reason I didn't vote for him is because I don't believe he could lead the entire country and would be eaten alive. If he were to be elected it might create four more years of DC political gridlock. Remember, I love the guy and am not saying that … [Read more...]

March For Life Numbers Woefully Misrepresented

Just take a look at this picture. Again, where was all the media coverage of this amazing event? From GetReligion (emphasis and linkage theirs): On Thursday, we looked at the rather shocking slideshow at the Washington CBS affiliate. It was headlined: Activists Hold Annual March For Life On Roe v. Wade Anniversary But it somehow hadn’t shown a single picture of an activist at the March for Life! Instead, it showed multiple pictures of the same handful of pro-choice protesters who protested the massive March for Life. First, we have an update. Around 7 p.m. on Thursday, three days after the March for Life, the folks at … [Read more...]

The Christian Post = Really Shoddy Reporting … Again

original CP article

Last year before leaving Exodus The Christian Post attributed quotes by Jeff Buchanan (the new Exec. Vice President of Exodus at the time ... still is) to me. I didn't say anything publicly because Jeff contacted them and they corrected it. However, they have done another horrible job at quoting me without actually talking to me. I will parse out the The Christian Post quotes of me in their article and respond in kind. From Cynthia Nixon Gay 'Choice' Comments Anger Homosexual Activists written January 24th, 2012 by Brittney R. Villalva, : Randy Thomas is the executive vice president of Exodus International, one of the world's … [Read more...]

Top Ten Posts for The Year 2011 – A Rundown and Afterthoughts

top ten

Well, 2011 is on the outs and 2012 is on the ... ins ... is that how it goes? Even so, this blog started on March 4th 2011. So I don't have a FULL year of statistics but I think it still counts. Also, interestingly, this is my 300th post! Now that's something to woot about right there that is. Here is a countdown of the top ten posts for the year with brief afterthoughts and/or updates with each post: #10. Why Cultural Christianity Fails To Satisfy This post was written three days ago so for it to shoot up and break the year's top ten must mean it struck a nerve. I don't have many afterthoughts on it because the conversation … [Read more...]

When Christian Activists Overshadow Religious Liberty & The Gospel

bible-thumper large

Back between 2003 and 2008 I was involved in a number of conference calls and meetings with different Christian activists and Christian citizens concerning a variety of socially conservative efforts. My hope for being involved in these meetings was to try and create or complement gracious and loving responses. Basically I was there to consider working with a group (different groups for different reasons) but only as it aligned with wanting to undermine the malevolent culture war and instead humanize the issues at hand. All of this of course while pointing people to Christ. Yes, of course, I agreed with some of the goals brought up in … [Read more...]

Newt Gingrich Rising: A Serious Concern

With Newt Gingrich - Washington Briefing 2006

Yeah I met Newt too. Only once for about 45 seconds. He was nice enough to take the picture with me. I like Newt Gingrich. I think he is smart, personable and thoughtful. He's had a rough road of his own creation and I am glad he has sought authentic repentance and humility in some major ways. My friends who follow politics may think that I am about to blog about his past adultery and weird policy and moral compromises. It would be understandable for my friends to assume this because Newt does have a lot of baggage. While he has asked God and those around him for forgiveness... trust is a precious investment and people are leery of … [Read more...]

Spoiling for a Fight – Is That The Real Goal of OWS?

ows

Well,  I keep trying to have some inkling of understanding for the Occupy Wall Street(ers) but ... it only seems to be getting more difficult to do so. I just saw an OWS guy saying that the cops letting them back into Zuccotti Park tonight was a victory for OWS because it was "their" land. They had "won" it. ::: blink ::: So the cops kick them out, clean up the mess OWS created, let them back in to protest without all the materials to create more mess and somehow OWS owns that land? Are they doing their own version of nation building? ... on U.S. soil? Is that an act of treason? I don't get it. It seems that today many who … [Read more...]

Three Months After Exodus Update

new day

Today is November 8th and five days after my 3rd month anniversary of not being on staff at Exodus. My feelings can be summed up as ... I'm lovin' it. When I began praying about leaving Exodus at the beginning of the year (literally around New Year's day) leaving Exodus seemed like an alien concept.  I'd been there for 9 years and had been a part of the Exodus movement for 19 years. I had no clue what would happen. What I was coming to realize is that I no longer had vision for being the Executive Vice President. Humbly stated, I felt like the reasons I was at Exodus had been accomplished. I was not burned out, or nudged out or … [Read more...]

A Man Moved by God – My Personal Testimony

"Living Water" - One of My First Drawings

This testimony was originally written in 2007 for Boundless Magazine and republished on the Exodus Website. Wanted to bring it here to my blog as well. Hope you are blessed by it. --- A Man Moved By God by Randy Thomas Fifteen years ago (19 as of posting this on randythomas.co) I was a very different man from who I am now. All of my relational, political, and social needs were defined by a worldview that fed my appetites and met my needs, albeit just temporarily. My world was centered around the idea that the unholy trinity of me-myself-and-I was sufficient to provide vision, inspiration, answers … and even legacy. I … [Read more...]

Wait ... hold up ... you mean to say younger voters want the Government to support traditional values? Cool or whatever the modern synonym for "cool" is.
