Always Humanize, Never Stigmatize

Shut UP and Get MOVING!

new place boxed

Yesterday was the big moving day. As I waited for the movers to show up I laid in the middle of the living room floor fully expecting to get emotional. I am an emotional man and I do not apologize for that. So step off male emoter haters or I'll cry in a way specifically designed to annoy you. It's been a bit of a grieving process leaving my wondebah condo so as I stretched out for a final good-bye thought and prayer ... I immediately thought ... What the heck am I doing in the middle of the floor? I don't have time for this ... suck it up, get over it... sheesh I am so annoying with the emotions sometimes! I'm tired of me whining … [Read more...]

Susan G. Komen is “Crushed” – My Wallet Is Closed

Won't Get Another Dime ...

Everyone is talking about how Planned Parenthood "crushed" The Komen Foundation via an online campaign. They succeeded in getting Komen to cave and start sending money their way again. Many are calling it a Social Media win. Jilly Stanek says this is a clear example of why it is important to have a social media strategy. I completely agree with that. That said, honestly, this situations looks more like online extortion by manipulating masses of people through social networking and the liberally biased media. It's an interesting new twist in the culture war where "friends" devour friends to make a name, or raise money, for themselves. … [Read more...]

Alan Clarifies His Views in Light of Visiting the GCN Conference

GCN

The whole post is great. I especially liked this part (emphasis mine): ... I believe that people who sin (all of us) can be Christian if they have accepted that free gift of salvation. If someone ever knew Christ, they still do. There are some who question this or believe differently who have criticized my statement at the GCN conference. Here we will have to agree to disagree. Identity plays a role in this, as well.  As it says in 2 Corinthians 5:17: Those who are in Christ are a new creation.  The old is gone and the new has come. New refers to quality unrelated to time.  At salvation we became instantly new.  Our ways may … [Read more...]

The Sign of The Scoffer

This Dog is Scoffing At You

The following quote is part of an extensive quote I put in the post Jonah's Hidden Idol Overthrown by God's True Grace. It was so good I wanted it to live in its own post. Timothy Keller writes in Counterfeit Gods (emphasis mine): An idol is something that we look to for things that only God can give. Idolatry functions widely inside religious communities when doctrinal truth is elevated to the position of a false god. This occurs when people rely on the rightness of their doctrine for their standing with God rather than on God Himself and His grace. It is a subtle but deadly mistake. The sign that you have slipped into this form of … [Read more...]

March For Life Numbers Woefully Misrepresented

Just take a look at this picture. Again, where was all the media coverage of this amazing event? From GetReligion (emphasis and linkage theirs): On Thursday, we looked at the rather shocking slideshow at the Washington CBS affiliate. It was headlined: Activists Hold Annual March For Life On Roe v. Wade Anniversary But it somehow hadn’t shown a single picture of an activist at the March for Life! Instead, it showed multiple pictures of the same handful of pro-choice protesters who protested the massive March for Life. First, we have an update. Around 7 p.m. on Thursday, three days after the March for Life, the folks at … [Read more...]

The Counterfeit Religion of Politics Part 2

cropped-beginning.jpg

I've gotten interesting feedback concerning The Counterfeit Religion of Politics and am encouraged to continue to post along those lines. Background: I was involved in politics, more than just a blogger with an opinion, between 2003 and 2007. Some would say, and did, that I was a "political operative."  That is highly exaggerated in an attempt to undermine my main focus of ministry. I only exercised the same civil liberties over 300 million Americans can exercise at will. That said, I do believe God opened up some amazing doors (testifying in Massachusetts, sharing my testimony in the Federal Senate (the actual Senate) building to a … [Read more...]

The Counterfeit Religion of Politics

I am currently reading Timothy Keller's book Counterfeit Gods and it is amazing. I just started the chapter The Power and The Glory: A World Possessed and this quote lept out at me ... ... Ernest Becker wrote that in a society that has lost the reality of God, many people will look to romantic love to give them the fulfillment they once found in religious experience. Nietzsche, however, believed it would be money that would replace God. But there is another candidate to fill this spiritual vacuum. We can also look to politics. We can look upon our political leaders as “messiahs,” our political policies as saving doctrine, and turn our … [Read more...]

When Words Are Many …

speech bubbles

The last couple of days have seen quite a bit of controversy and gossip inspired by Alan's visiting the GCN conference.  All kinds of consternation has been flying around about whoever the decided villain, of that particular discussion, should be or did. Then I traveled around the blogosphere and read literally thousands of words, from all sides (not just two), that left me frustrated with the lack of authentic grace. Thoughtfulness toward others got lost in blasting the "issues." Civility seems to be a lost concept. In general, the questions I read were rhetorical and only asked for the benefit of preaching to the choir. Their … [Read more...]

Here is To A Healthy 2012

2012 Balloons

I haven't done a 2012 New Years Resolution post because I just haven't really thought of having New Years Resolutions. I haven't honestly spent any time coming up with a list of them because for some reason, this time ... the idea of personal resolutions feel like a self-imposed prison. This is probably a matter of perspective. Especially after you read the rest of this post. But, without getting on a soapbox and having no desire to even try, New Year's resolutions are not appealing to me this 2012. What is appealing to me is continuing Weight Watchers. I was on and off of WW all year last year but got serious the Monday after … [Read more...]
